Cold

A girl is eating sushi as she checks her phone
A man lies on his back - his shoes are on - his shirt undone
His chest is bare to catch the morning sun
A dozen others lounge around for this is coming up to lunchtime in a London square
And soon therell be a thousand from the offices
Taking off their clothes and eating sandwiches

Twelve oclock - its noon
A plane tree with the flaking bark
The shadow of the tree falls on the ground
And stretches out the whole diagonal to the farthest corner of the park . Too long .
Its reach is five , six times its height at least and this is wrong
On this day of naked flesh . Thin shadows clutch
with bony fingers , this hot winters day

UNICORNS ( I never thought there’d be such talk of unicorns )

In two oh nineteen , all the talk
Has been of unicorns - they have been spotted
In car parks , alleys , rummaging through bins
It is the snow that’s brought them into town
From their high places where the clouds
Cross over with the tops of mountains
And all is white and nothingness
Or is it Lack of Snow that brought them down ? I’m not too sure
We saw one yesterday - as large as life
Scratching her haunches on the Pay , Display machine
Her mate was in the corner , prising open wheelie bins
And rummaging through debris with his pearly feet|

They seemed surprised to see us there
Then stared right at us - unafraid -
and fixed us with their strange unworldy eyes
